A Good Coaching Session Doesn’t Always Need to End with an Answer
Sometimes, the most valuable thing we can take away from a conversation is simply: “I can see things more clearly now.”
Throughout my journey of learning and practicing coaching, I have come to realize that a meaningful coaching session does not necessarily have to end with a major decision or a specific action.
Sometimes, transformation begins with something very small:
We see something familiar from a new perspective.
And from there, what once felt unclear begins to make more sense.
Recently, I received these words from a coachee who is also an Erickson alumna. We worked together through four coaching sessions over four months.
What I value most about her reflection is not simply the kind words, but the way she so accurately described her experience during our coaching sessions.

“Guided, but never led.”
There was one sentence in her testimonial that particularly stayed with me:
“…guiding the conversation while still giving you the space to arrive at your own insights and conclusions.”
Perhaps this is also one of the things I continually remind myself of in every coaching session.
I don’t need to have the answers to my coachee’s life.
Nor do I need to be the person who decides which path they should take.
My role is to create a safe enough space for them to pause amid the constant movement of life, observe what is happening within them, and become more honest about what they truly want.
I may ask a question.
I may invite you to look at a situation from a different perspective.
I may explore with you something you hadn’t noticed before.
But you are the one who discovers the insight.
And that, to me, is what makes coaching different.
When “Clarity” Is Already a Transformation
When we’re confused, we often think we need advice.
We want someone to tell us:
“What should I do?”
“Should I choose A or B?”
“Which path is the right one?”
But sometimes, what we truly need isn’t someone to give us the answer.
We need a space where we can ask ourselves:
“What truly matters to me?”
“From what perspective am I looking at this situation?”
“If I weren’t limited by the things I’ve always believed to be true, what else might I see?”
When these questions begin to open up, sometimes the answers that have been within us all along start to become clearer.
And for me, that’s one of the most beautiful things about coaching:
It’s not that I helped someone find their answer.
It’s that they discovered their own answer.
Thank you for trusting me and walking alongside me through these four months.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to witness a part of your journey as you looked more deeply within yourself, explored new perspectives, and moved forward with greater clarity.
Perhaps each coaching session is more than simply a conversation between two people.
Perhaps it is an appointment to meet yourself again.

Is there something in your life that still doesn’t feel clear?
If you’re going through a transition, facing an important decision, feeling uncertain about your direction, or simply carrying too many thoughts that need to be sorted through…
Maybe you don’t need another piece of advice.
Maybe you simply need a safe, judgment-free space where you can slow down and truly listen to yourself.
I’d be honored to walk alongside you in that conversation.
